English club Brighton & Hove Albion Women’s Football Club have signed Tanzanian striker Aisha Masaka.
The 20-year-old joins the English Women’s Super League side from BK Hacken in Sweden.
“We are delighted to announce the signing of forward Aisha Masaka from BK Hacken on undisclosed terms, subject to the usual regulatory processes,” the English club said on its platform.
Masaka, who has won 15 caps for Tanzania, scoring nine goals since her debut in 2021, said she can’t wait to get started at her new club. “I’m really excited to join the Club,” said the former Young African Princess.
Zoe Johnson, Brighton & Hove Albion’s managing director of women’s and girls’ football, said they are really excited to welcome Aisha to Brighton. “She has competed at a high and challenging level in Sweden and represented Hacken in the Champions League,” Johnson added.
He said Masaka is a physical forward who is dominant on the ball and a natural goalscorer. “We look forward to welcoming her to Albion ahead of the new season,” Johnson added.
In his two seasons at BK Hacken, Masaka helped the team finish second in the Swedish League and reached the quarter-finals of the UEFA Champions League last season before losing to PSG.
Masaka becomes the first Tanzanian player to join a team in the English Women’s Super League. Some of the other professional women’s football players from Tanzania include; Oppa Clement Tukumbuke (Besiktas, Turkey), Diana Lucas (Ame SFK, Turkey), Maimuna Kaimu (ZED FC, Egypt), Clara Luvanga (Al Nasi FC, Saudi Arabia), Juletha Singano (Juarez, Mexico) and Enekia Kasonga (Eastern Flames, Saudi Arabia)
