Crystal Palace’s price tag for defender Marc Guehi is too expensive for Liverpool, sources told Football Insider.
The Reds are long-time admirers of the 24-year-old and remain in the market for a new left-footed centre-back.
Newcastle United have made the first move for Guehi in a bid to sign him before the August 30 transfer deadline.
The Magpies are believed to want to make a statement of intent by bringing the England international to St James’ Park.
Football Insider revealed on Saturday (August 3) that Crystal Palace have told Newcastle they want an initial fee of £50m for Guehi, supplemented by add-ons.

Sources say both Liverpool and Manchester United, who have long-term interests in the former Chelsea star, are unlikely to meet those demands for the remainder of the summer transfer window.
Guehi has boosted his value with a string of stellar performances for beaten finalists England at Euro 2024.
He made six appearances for the Three Lions in the tournament.
The 24-year-old played 29 times in all competitions at club level last season, captaining Palace when fit.
Guehi has a contract at Selhurst Park until June 2026 after joining from Chelsea three years ago.
