Tottenham’s draw with Leicester City was one of the few surprises of the Premier League’s opening weekend.
Spurs started brightly at the King Power Stadium and took a deserved lead when Pedro Porro latched onto a brilliant James Maddison cross.
Ange Postecoglou’s side continued to dominate and it was frankly surprising that they went into the break with just a one-goal lead.
But Tottenham were made to pay for their poor finishing in the second half as Steve Cooper’s side turned the game in their favour.
Jamie Vardy equalised for the hosts just before the hour mark after finding space at the back post. Cristian Romero was criticised for his defending, while top scorer Porro was also caught out.
After finishing fifth last season under Postecoglou, many expect Spurs to improve this season and challenge for Champions League qualification.
Big spending over the summer, including a club-record £65million deal for Dominic Solanke, has increased the pressure on Postecoglou to perform well this season.
Defeat to newly-promoted Leicester only added to the pressure and Maddison is now braced for a media onslaught.
“We should be getting three points in places like this,” Maddison told Standard Sport. “No disrespect to Leicester but they are a newly promoted team.
“What we want to achieve is to leave with three points.
“The way the game went, it was frustrating to drop points. On nights like that, the media get excited about us dropping points from winning positions, but it’s all outside noise.”
Are Tottenham already under pressure?
Tottenham’s fixtures don’t get much easier. The visit of Everton – fresh from a 3-0 defeat to Brighton – is next up.

Tottenham cannot afford to drop any more points against the Merseyside side with clashes against Newcastle United and Arsenal looming.
A slow start could prove extremely costly for Tottenham in their quest to qualify for the Champions League.
